Shop Theft Sparks Violent Assault and Racial Abuse
The chaos kicked off at 4pm on Addington Street when 38-year-old Jesse Lewis allegedly tried to steal alcohol. When confronted by shop staff, he didn’t back down – instead, he physically attacked two workers and unleashed shocking racist slurs.
Damage and Threats Escalate on Queen Street
Lewis’s rampage didn’t stop there. Just an hour later, he showed up at an office on Queen Street where he reportedly smashed property and threatened staff, pushing tensions to the max.
Quick Arrest and Heavy Charges
Police caught up with Lewis on Broad Street and arrested him. At Margate Police Station, he continued his hostile behaviour by verbally abusing officers.
He now faces a whopping 13 charges, including threats to kill, affray, robbery, and racially aggravated criminal damage.
Lewis made a brief appearance at Margate Magistrates’ Court on 26 March 2026 and has been remanded in custody. His next court date is set for 27 April 2026 at Canterbury Crown Court.
