Southampton Rapist Jozef Janczura Found Guilty

Jozef Janczura, 34, from Laburnum Road, Southampton, has been found guilty of raping and assaulting an 18-year-old woman in Riverside Park on December 2, 2018. The shocking attack sparked a major police investigation dubbed Operation Scorch.

CCTV and DNA Seal Janczura’s Fate

After a three-day trial at Southampton Crown Court, the jury handed down a guilty verdict on both counts today, December 11, more than a year after the horrific crime. Officers pieced together CCTV footage and DNA evidence that tied Janczura directly to the assault and rape.

Justice Nears as Sentencing Set

Janczura is due to be sentenced on January 16, 2020. The Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Team praised the power of forensic science in cracking the case, stating they stopped at nothing to find a match and catch this dangerous offender.

“We would like to commend the woman on her bravery and courage, which has helped secure this verdict against a very dangerous man. I hope this court result will go some way towards helping her move forward with her life.”

This hard-fought victory highlights the relentless work of police and specialist teams dedicated to protecting the community and delivering justice for victims.
