Broadstairs Post Office Robber Jailed for Two and a Half Years
A 20-year-old crook has been locked up for two and a half years after terrifying a post office staff member and making a fast getaway – only to be caught by Kent Police within hours.
The Daring Daylight Robbery
Harry Marshall struck at the Dumpton Post Office on Ramsgate Road at 6:42am on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Armed with a blade, he threatened the staff and demanded cash before fleeing with cash from the till. He also dropped an extendable baton as he made his escape on a moped.
Swift Arrest and Charges
Police wasted no time. Less than four hours later, officers apprehended Marshall nearby and recovered the stolen money. He was charged with robbery, possession of a knife, and carrying an offensive weapon in public.
Justice Served at Canterbury Crown Court
Marshall admitted to the crimes and was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday, December 19.
Police React to the Frightening Incident
Detective Sergeant Vanessa Law said, “Marshall put his victim through a frightening experience, making him believe he would be harmed if he refused to hand over the money from his business.”
“Marshall’s despicable actions that day have had a lasting impact on his victim, and it is right that a custodial sentence has been imposed. We will always strive to bring offenders such as Marshall to justice.”
Community on Alert
The robbery has underlined the need for vigilance in Broadstairs. Kent Police have pledged to keep the community safe and provide support for crime victims.
