Three men who gang-raped a lone woman after she got into what she thought was a licensed taxi in Hull city centre last year are finally facing justice. Two were found guilty of rape under joint enterprise, while the third pleaded guilty earlier.
Night Out Turns Nightmare
The victim had just left a night out with friends when she got into a vehicle she believed to be a registered taxi. But the ordeal took a horrific turn as Bakhtullah Safi, 18, and his accomplices Habibullah Ahmadzai and Kehan raped her during the journey.
Fake Taxi, Real Horror
Police uncovered that the vehicle was registered to Bakhtullah Safi. The trio deceived the woman all along, pretending to be legitimate taxi drivers. After the attack, Safi demanded £20 for the ride, but the woman refused and managed to escape to safety.
Justice Served, Sentencing Imminent
The jury returned guilty verdicts for Safi and Ahmadzai on Wednesday 14 February. All three men are now remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced on Tuesday 2 April.
Detective Speaks Out
“This was a truly disturbing case,” said Detective Constable Ashley Webster. “These men turned what should have been a night out into a horrific and utterly traumatising ordeal for their own twisted needs.”
He added, “They showed no remorse and forced the victim through the trauma of a trial by denying their crimes. We will never tolerate violence against women or girls in Hull. We urge anyone affected to come forward. We’re committed to bringing offenders to justice and offering support to survivors.”
