Sussex Cop Charged with Sexual Assault While on Duty

Sergeant Matthew Crane, 47, a Sussex Police officer, faces two counts of sexual assault by touching. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the charges following an investigation involving a woman known to him.

Alleged Incident Happened on Duty

The alleged offences took place on 19 September 2023 while Sergeant Crane was on duty. Following these allegations, he has been suspended and is due to appear at Staines Magistrates’ Court on 21 June.

Independent Investigators Step In

The case was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which ordered a local probe by Sussex Police’s Professional Standards Department.
