Shock in Barnsley as three people face murder charges following the death of Liam Green. The 33-year-old man died after being hit by a car in the Cudworth area last Friday.

Deadly Crash on Rose Tree Avenue

Emergency services raced to Rose Tree Avenue just before 5pm on Friday 3 April after reports of a pedestrian struck by a white Volkswagen. Sadly, Liam Green was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspects Named and Charged

On Monday 6 April, police charged 60-year-old Mark Wigley, 38-year-old Sarah Louise Wigley, and 53-year-old Neil Shaw — all from Royston Road, Barnsley — with murder. The trio have been remanded into custody and are set to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 7 April.

Family Mourns and Police Appeal for Information

“We hope you’re at peace now. We all love you very much, sending you big hugs from your mam, sons, brother and family,” the family paid tribute to Liam.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed: “Liam, who was the pedestrian, sadly died at the scene. His family is being supported by our officers.” Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail as the investigation continues. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist with the ongoing inquiry. Date: 6 April 2026
