Thugs Jailed for Brutal BMW Street Attack in Newham
Three Newham men have been locked up for a savage, premeditated attack that left a young victim seriously injured. Mujahid Ali, Hamza Wahid, and Mohamed Mohamed, all 25, were sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 20 May after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
BMW Drive-By Turns Violent
The shocking assault unfolded on 8 September 2021. The 20-year-old victim was walking down West Road, E15 when Mohamed pulled up beside him in his BMW. Wahid, acting as lookout, jumped out and chased the victim, landing a brutal punch to his face. Meanwhile, Ali emerged from the car armed with a steering wheel lock.
The victim tried to flee and even hid in a nearby garage, but the attackers caught him. Ali and Wahid repeatedly smashed his head with the lock, leaving him bloodied and battered before the trio sped off towards Stratford Road.
Dashcam Footage Reveals Callous Attackers
Police seized Mohamed’s BMW the day after the attack and discovered damning dashcam footage. The video captures the trio planning their assault, discussing kidnapping the victim, and vowing to “kick his face in” — even plotting to “drive him over” if he tried to escape.
After the vicious beating, the attackers were heard laughing and boasting:
- “I crushed his skull, he is bleeding.”
- “I licked him a good four times with that thing, I was whacking him up.”
- “I was kicking him, punching his face.”
- “He was crying for his life, begging.”
- “I said do you want to die today? He said no… I’m sorry, I’m sorry. If he didn’t say that I would’ve killed him.”
Justice Served
The victim was found by police on the floor, bloodied and vomiting, with fractured jawbones requiring emergency surgery involving metal plates and screws.
Mohamed was arrested when trying to reclaim his BMW from the police pound. Ali and Wahid handed themselves in a few days later. All three refused to comment in interviews but later pleaded guilty.
Detective Constable Andy Tucker said: “This was a brutal, premeditated attack which left the victim seriously injured and requiring emergency surgery. It is absolutely appalling that the three drove off and laughed and joked about the vicious attack while the victim lay bleeding on the street. They had no remorse for their actions at all.”
“We were determined to get justice for the victim and our comprehensive investigation meant Ali, Wahid and Mohamed had no choice but to plead guilty to their heinous crimes.”
“We will not tolerate violence in any form and we will do everything in our power to ensure violent individuals like Ali, Wahid and Mohamed are put behind bars.”
Ali and Mohamed were each sentenced to four years and six months behind bars. Wahid received four years in jail.
