Brazen Thief Punched Guard and Spat at Cops Before Jail
Lee Egege, 39, landed behind bars after a wild crime spree across two West Bromwich shops in January. The hardened crook didn’t hold back—punching a security guard and even spitting at a police officer during his arrest.
Two Bold Thefts in One Week
On 19 January, Egege targeted a shop on Reservoir Road, stealing several items. Just seven days later, he hit another store in Astle Park. This time, he acted sly—letting a worker scan his goods before trying to flee with the bag.
Violence Erupts as Security Guards Step In
A security guard blocked Egege’s escape, but the thief lashed out with a punch to the face. When police arrived shortly after, it got worse. Egege spat in an officer’s face during his arrest, adding assault on a constable to his list of charges.
Caught on CCTV, Sentenced to Jail
Cunning CCTV footage nailed Egege, who has no fixed address, leading to his quick arrest. He faced Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court, where he was convicted of two counts of shop theft, common assault, and assaulting a police officer.
The court handed him an 18-week prison sentence for his violent rampage.
