Two men have been locked up for a combined four years and two months over the violent chaos that rocked Bristol on Saturday, August 3.
Bricks, Bottles & Racial Abuse: The Scene at Bristol
Craig Timbrell, 38, from Hartcliffe, and Bradley McCarthy, 34, from Knowle, both admitted to violent disorder charges and were sentenced today at Bristol Crown Court. Their convictions bring the total jailed for the riots to eight, with combined sentences nearing 18 years.
Timbrell was caught on court footage hurling concrete bricks and a glass bottle at police near Redcliffe Way Roundabout. Judge Lambert slammed his actions as “aggressive” and “disgusting,” handing down a 30-month prison sentence.
McCarthy led a group at Castle Park, threatening counter-protesters and using racial slurs. Ignoring police orders, he continued shouting and even confronted police dogs. The judge condemned his role in a “violent mob” and sentenced him to 20 months behind bars.
Police Clampdown: More Arrests Loom
Detective Chief Inspector Clement Goodwin said: “These two men encouraged shocking abuse towards officers and the public. They were part of a violent group causing real fear. We promised to pursue those responsible for this disgraceful behaviour, and that work goes on.”
So far, 30 people have been arrested in connection to the unrest, with 17 charged and eight already serving prison time. Police remain determined to bring all those involved to justice.
