Lorry Driver Jailed for Savage M1 Road Rage Stab Attack

Brutal Stabbing Sparks on M1 Near Watford Gap

A 47-year-old lorry driver has been locked up for 22 months after launching a vicious stabbing attack during a fiery road rage incident on the M1 motorway.

It all went pear-shaped on March 14 near Watford Gap Services when Mykhaylo Kuzyan suddenly switched lanes, sparking fury from a rival trucker. The victim flashed his lights to express disapproval, but things quickly spiralled out of control.

Kuzyan followed the other driver into the services and deliberately blocked his exit with his lorry. In response, the victim smashed a brick against Kuzyan’s truck before walking away — only for Kuzyan to storm after him and stab him five times in the back.

Thankfully, a courageous bystander intervened, stopping the attack and preventing further injuries.

Guilty Plea Brings Jail Time

Kuzyan was arrested and charged. At Northampton Crown Court on September 8, just before his trial started, he pleaded guilty to wounding with intent (Section 20), dangerous driving, and possession of an offensive weapon — claiming self-defence.

He was sentenced to 22 months behind bars, banned from driving in the UK for 35 months, and slapped with a £187 fine. The stabbing weapon was confiscated.

Police Blast Knife Violence

“Such violence has no place in our society. This minor incident escalated fast into a senseless attack,” said Detective Constable Abigail Jones from CID West.

Jones warned about the deadly risks knives pose and praised the sentence as a strong warning. “Thankfully, the victim wasn’t seriously hurt, but this could have ended in tragedy.”

Fighting Knife Crime Remains a Priority

Northamptonshire Police reaffirm their commitment to cracking down on knife crime. They plan to continue education, community engagement, and taking tough action against offenders to keep roads and neighbourhoods safer.
