Despite rushed efforts from officers and emergency teams, the man died at the scene. Officers confirmed he was never detained or taken into custody. “He’d been coming and going from the station since 9 a.m. and didn’t try to speak to police,” Hackney Police said on Twitter.

Investigation Underway but Death Not Treated as Suspicious

Police have alerted the man’s family and found a note at the scene. A report will be sent to the coroner. The station was cordoned off around 7 p.m. as police examined the situation. “He entered the front office voluntarily and was not apprehended,” said Hackney Police. The Directorate of Professional Standards is investigating the matter, but the death itself is not being treated as suspicious.
