Burglary and Blaze Hit Yeovil Charity Shop
Police in Avon and Somerset are probing a brazen burglary and a fierce fire at a Yeovil town centre charity shop. The Age UK store on Middle Street was badly damaged after thieves struck and set the place ablaze.
Thieves Steal Cash Then Spark Fire
Officers confirmed the store was broken into around 6pm last night, with petty cash stolen. Shortly after, flames erupted, causing serious damage. Investigators from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service rushed to the scene.
“We received multiple calls about a fire on Middle Street,” said a fire service spokeswoman. “We sent several appliances, including an aerial ladder from Yeovil. Flames were visible from the first and second floors. Thankfully, by midnight, there were no signs of reignition.”
Huge Fire Response
- Two initial fire engines from Yeovil were deployed
- A third engine was added due to multiple reports
- Two extra appliances came from Martock and Sherborne
- An aerial ladder platform was sent to tackle high flames
Police Hunt Two Men Seen Nearby
Avon and Somerset Police say two men were spotted in South Street soon after the break-in. CCTV footage is being reviewed urgently. Authorities are appealing for anyone with mobile phone photos or video from the area around 6pm last night to come forward.
