High-Speed Police Chase Ends in Shocking Orpington Crash
Two suspects have been arrested after a dramatic police chase ended with a VW Passat smashing into a property in Orpington, Kent. The crash fractured a gas main, sparking a major emergency response and road closures.
Gas Leak Sparks Evacuations
The crash occurred just after 8.15pm on Mountview Road when the car ploughed into a house, causing a large gas leak. Paramedics from London Ambulance Service and firefighters from Orpington rushed to the scene. A toxic gas cloud forced nearby residents to evacuate, while others were told to keep windows and doors shut for safety.
Suspects Flee Into Woodland, Helicopter and Dogs Deployed
After the smash, the vehicle’s occupants bolted in different directions into nearby woodland. Police launched a full-scale search, bringing in dog handlers and a helicopter. Both suspects were soon spotted trying to hide and were arrested.
A police dog from the Metropolitan Taskforce helped track down the fugitives. They are now in custody, while a large police presence remains on site.
Road Closures and Disrupted Bus Routes
Major sections of Perry Hall Road and Mountview Road remain closed as gas engineers repair the damage. The disruption has also forced route 61 buses onto a diversion. An investigation into the chase is underway.
The Metropolitan Police have been contacted for comment.
