Counter Terrorism Policing has officially declared last night’s stabbing in Reading a terrorist incident. The shocking attack happened on 20 June and quickly spurred a major investigation.

Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) are now leading the investigation, working closely with Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Department. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon confirmed the move this morning, marking a serious escalation in the case.

A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody as detectives piece together what happened.

Police Chief Offers Support and Cautions Public

“I am deeply saddened by the events of last night. This was a truly tragic incident,” Thames Valley Chief Constable John Campbell said.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected. While incidents like this are rare, we understand the concern this has caused in Reading.”

“Police cordons remain in place and will be for some time as investigation continues. We urge the public to avoid the area and to refrain from speculation.”
