Blaze Rips Through East London Block as Residents Leap to Safety
Chaos erupted this afternoon on Tollgate Road, Beckton, East London, as a fierce fire tore through a three-storey residential block. Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade, along with police and paramedics, raced to the scene to tackle the fierce blaze.
Flames Engulf Multiple Floors
The fire, which broke out just after 5pm, quickly spread across the first and second floors, with flames licking at third-floor windows. Smoke and fire were visible from the outside as the situation escalated.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade confirmed six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow, Barking, and nearby stations were deployed. An aerial ladder platform was also brought in to help battle the inferno.
Terrified Residents Forced to Jump
Witnesses reported seeing a number of people leap from windows to escape the blaze, highlighting the desperate nature of the emergency. The staircase connecting the first and second floors was reportedly ablaze, making escape routes perilous.
Road Closures and Service Disruptions Hit Local Area
Emergency services have closed off roads around Tollgate Road. Local bus routes have been diverted, and drivers are urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes. The London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, and Metropolitan Police remain on site as the fire continues to be brought under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities have yet to issue further details.
