Four Dead in Horror Crash as Car Ploughs Into House in Derry Hill
Tragedy struck in Derry Hill, near Calne, in the early hours today when a vehicle slammed into the side of a house before bursting into flames. The deadly smash happened on the A4 at around 3am on August 16.
Householders Escape, But Young Men Perish
The people inside the house made a quick 999 call and were safely evacuated while firefighters tackled the blaze. Miraculously, no one inside the property was hurt.
But heartbreak for the four young men inside the car. All local to the area, they died at the scene.
Police Speak Out
Supt Steve Cox said: “This was an absolutely horrific collision on our roads in the early hours of this morning. All blue light services attended the scene and were met with devastating scenes after a vehicle appears to have been travelling along the A4 when it collided with a house and caught on fire. All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.”
“Their families have been informed and we are in the process of assigning each family with specialist trained officers. Our thoughts, and the thoughts of all at Wiltshire Police are with them all today.”
Road Closures & Investigation Underway
Both the A4 and A342 remain closed as police conduct their investigation and recovery operations.
