Hampshire Nabs Over 98% of Kids Their Dream Secondary School Places!
Hampshire County Council has pulled off a cracker, offering more than 98% of parents their chosen secondary school spot for Year 7 this year. Even better, 93.6% landed a place at their first-choice school.
Soaring Demand, Smooth Sailing
“We’re thrilled to secure places for so many pupils despite a surge in demand,” said Councillor Peter Edgar, Hampshire’s Executive Member for Education. This year saw 13,515 on-time applications—a jump of over 500 from last year.
“Pupil numbers keep climbing, but so does our investment in new school places. Our solid planning means we’re not just keeping up; we’re staying ahead.”
What If You Miss Out?
While most got their top picks, some parents faced disappointment. Yet all children who applied got a place somewhere nearby with spaces.
- Parents can appeal school offers.
- Children can be put on waiting lists for preferred schools.
- Places sometimes free up if families move or change their minds.
Next Up: Primary School Places
The admissions team is now hard at work processing primary school applications, with offers set to land on 18 April 2016. Fingers crossed those results are just as strong!
