Fire Breaks Out in North London Flat – Man Rescued as Smoke Alarms Fail
Fire Hits Fifth Floor of Apartment Block
A fire ripped through a hallway on the fifth floor of an 11-story apartment building in North London. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rushed to the scene and led a man from a nearby flat to safety. The London Ambulance Service treated him on site for smoke inhalation.
No Smoke Alarms Put Lives at Risk
Shockingly, the flat next to the fire had no working smoke alarms. Station Officer Adam Placey, at the scene, warned: “This incident is a timely reminder about the importance of having smoke alarms in your home. Without working alarms, you and your loved ones are at serious risk.”
“Homes require multiple smoke alarms on every floor, especially in hallways and frequently used rooms. A heat alarm in the kitchen and bathroom is also vital,” he added.
Keep Escape Routes Clear
Station Officer Placey also urged residents not to store belongings in communal areas. “Items in hallways and stairwells block escape routes and hinder firefighters during emergencies. Always keep corridors and stairs clear,” he said.
Firefighters Act Fast – Investigation Underway
The fire broke out just before 1am. Enfield, Edmonton, and Chingford fire teams responded quickly, extinguishing the blaze by 1.48am. The Metropolitan Police Service has launched an investigation into the fire’s cause.
