West Midlands Man Held After Horror Crash Shocks M5 Near Clevedon
Late-Night Smash Leaves Elderly Woman Critical
Chaos hit the M5 southbound at junction 20 around 11:30pm on Saturday, 4 October, when a white Renault Master flatbed van slammed into a white Hyundai i10. The Hyundai was driven by an woman in her 80s, who suffered serious injuries in the collision.
Emergency services and witnesses rushed to give first aid at the scene before she was rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The van’s driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle nearby, sparking an immediate police hunt.
Suspect Arrested & Released on Bail
Just two days later, police arrested a man in his 20s from the West Midlands on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released on police bail as the investigation continues.
Police Call for Witnesses
Avon & Somerset Police are combing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to piece together what happened. They’ve issued a public appeal to anyone with information.
