Hate Crime Horror: Mosque Targeted in Newtownards
Police in Northern Ireland are hunting suspects after a mosque in Newtownards was attacked in the early hours of Saturday, August 10. The incident on Greenwell Street saw shocking vandalism and a terrifying attempted arson.
Vandalism and Attempted Arson at Place of Worship
Local authorities rushed to the scene following reports of damage. On arrival, officers found the mosque had been vandalised and someone had tried to set the building ablaze. Luckily, the fire failed to catch and no injuries were reported.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “We are treating this as a hate crime, given the nature of the attack on a place of worship. Such acts of intolerance are completely unacceptable, and we are doing everything possible to identify those responsible.”
