Woman in her 60s found dead in Watlington wood spark murder probe
Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation after the body of a woman in her 60s was found in woodland at Watlington Hill National Trust Estate on Thursday evening.
Murder investigation underway
The woman’s body was discovered at around 5.53pm on 23 October. Officers swiftly arrested a man on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody but was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Police appeal for witnesses
Detective Superintendent Craig Kirby from the Major Crime Unit said: “We have tonight launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in woodland earlier this evening. My thoughts remain with the deceased woman’s family at what must be a hugely distressing time.”
He added: “We are piecing together what led to this woman’s death. We have arrested a man suspected of murder who is currently receiving hospital treatment.”
Suspicious man spotted near local pub
Police are urging the public to come forward with any information, especially if anyone saw anything suspicious in the Watlington Hill area just before 6pm on Thursday.
Detectives are also tentatively linking the case to reports of a man acting strangely near the Fox and Hounds pub in Christmas Common, Watlington at around 3.30pm on the same day.
