Man Dies After Foiling Moped Theft in Battersea
Tragedy struck on Saturday, 25 May, when a 46-year-old man was found with a head injury on Charlotte Despard Avenue, SW11. Police rushed to the scene at 4.32pm after reports of an assault.
Assault After Attempted Moped Theft
The victim had confronted a group of males trying to steal his moped from a nearby car park off Battersea Park Road. He was attacked in the street and the suspects fled before police arrived.
Although the moped was not stolen, it has been seized for forensic examination.
Man Dies in Hospital, Murder Probe Launched
London Ambulance Service took the man to hospital, but he sadly died three days later on Tuesday, 28 May. Police await formal ID and confirmation that family have been informed. A post-mortem is planned.
Teen Arrested and Bailed
A 16-year-old male was arrested near the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH). He has been bailed to early June pending further inquiries.
The case is now a murder investigation led by the Homicide and Major Crime Command.
