Leeds Launches Free Bike Security Marking Scheme for 3,000 Cyclists
Leeds is cracking down on bike theft with a new free security marking and registration scheme. Thanks to funding from the Active Travel Fund, over 3,000 cyclists across the city can now mark their bikes and register them on the National Cycle Database run by Bike Register®.
Get Your Bike Marked and Registered for Free
Bike Register® is a ‘Secured by Design’ accredited company managing the national database. Best of all, it’s free to register your bike as long as you have your frame number — no need to buy a product from them.
Security marking events are popping up all over Leeds, offering residents free bike registration and crime prevention advice. Several local schools are also joining in the effort.
Police and Council Back the Push to Cut Cycle Crime
“Security marking in general plays an important role in reducing crime, making items difficult to sell on and increasing the chances of property being returned to owners. These cycle crime prevention events are increasingly popular, and I would urge anyone who owns a bike to get to one.”– Paul Denison, West Yorkshire Police Crime Prevention
“We are really looking forward to working in collaboration with the Police in delivering bike registration across Leeds. It’s a fantastic scheme and we hope people will take advantage and cycle more.”– Carrine Thompson-Green, Leeds City Council
