Leeds Launches Massive Bike Security Drive for 3,000 Cyclists
More than 3,000 Leeds cyclists are set to get their rides security marked and registered thanks to a new initiative backed by the Active Travel Fund.
Free Bike Registration on National Database
The scheme, running across the city, allows residents to register their bikes free of charge on the National Cycle Database operated by Bike Register®, a ‘Secured by Design’ accredited outfit. All you need is your bike’s frame number — no Bike Register product required.
Community Events Boosting Cycle Security
Security marking and registration sessions are popping up all over Leeds, including at local schools. The events aim to slash cycle crime by making stolen bikes harder to sell and easier to recover.
“Security marking in general plays an important role in reducing crime, making items difficult to sell on and increasing the chances of property being returned to owners,” said Paul Denison from West Yorkshire Police Crime Prevention.
“These cycle crime prevention events are increasingly popular, and I would urge anyone who owns a bike to get to one.”
“We are really looking forward to working in collaboration with the Police in delivering bike registration across Leeds,” said Carrine Thompson-Green from Leeds City Council. “It’s a fantastic scheme and we hope people will take advantage and cycle more.”
