Bus Driver Spat At by Mask Refuser on Route 83
Chaos erupted on a route 83 bus near 1 Stadium at 10:40pm on Friday, 16 April. A man boarded without wearing a mask and ignored the driver’s request to put one on.
Defiant Passenger Refuses to Mask Up
The passenger promised to wear a mask but instead took a seat upstairs maskless. When the bus stopped at Lakeside Way on Empire Way, the driver warned him he must disembark if he refused to comply.
Spitting Attack Shocks Driver
The passenger got off but then stormed forward, shouting abuse and spat at the driver. The spit hit the glass on the front door.
The driver reported the assault to police later that night.
Police Release Image, Hunt Spitting Suspect
PC Matt Cannon of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command said: “Bus drivers have risked their health throughout the pandemic to keep the public moving. Assaults like this are unacceptable, but spitting during Covid-19 is particularly disgusting.”
He added: “We’ve tried other ways to find this man but so far no luck. We hope the public can help us ID him.”
