80-Year-Old Woman Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Cosham Crash
An elderly woman has been left with life-changing injuries after a serious collision at lunchtime in Cosham.
Van Hits Pedestrian, Trapping Her Under Vehicle
The crash happened near the junction of Cosham High Street and Vectis Way. A van turning into Vectis Way struck the 80-year-old woman, trapping her underneath.
Emergency Crews Rush to Scene
Firefighters from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue, Hampshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, paramedics, and a Hazardous Area Response Team all rushed to the scene.
“Our officers were called at midday following reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian,” said a Hampshire Police spokesman. “The woman suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. A member of the public performed CPR before emergency crews arrived.”
The injured woman was quickly treated by paramedics on-site before being rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Road Closures and Warnings for Motorists
Police have closed Cosham High Street and Vectis Way as they continue to investigate. Drivers are urged to avoid the town centre while emergency services work.
A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman added:
“We sent two ambulance crews and an ambulance officer who treated one patient in life-threatening condition before transporting her to hospital.”
Firefighters also provided vital first aid and helped secure the scene.
