Bury rocked by spate of knife and bat robberies in just two days!

Four attacks over two days

Terrifying incidents unfolded in Bury on the evening of Wednesday 9 March and the afternoon of Thursday 10 March 2022. Four separate robberies saw victims threatened with knives and baseball bats across the town centre.

Knife-wielding thugs strike near Subway

The first attack hit Moor Street at around 8:30pm on Wednesday. Two skinny Asian males, approximately 5ft 10in tall and wearing balaclavas and dark tracksuits, confronted a victim near Subway. They brandished a knife and demanded money but fled empty-handed.

Bat-wielding teens target Brunswick Street

Minutes later, at 8:40pm near Brunswick Street and Hornby Street, two Asian boys aged about 14, clad in black tracksuits and ski masks, confronted a woman with baseball bats. A nearby passerby bravely intervened, chasing the pair towards KFC.

Bag snatching near Tesco and Tithebarn

At 9pm, two men—one white teen with curly blonde/ginger hair carrying a gold baseball bat, and an Asian man wearing a black balaclava and gloves—followed and threatened another woman near Tesco on Moor Street but let her go when they found no cash.

The following afternoon, two Asian men around 18 years old, wearing balaclavas and all-black clothing, robbed two victims in the Tithebarn area, stealing their mobile phones.

Police ramp up presence, appeal for witnesses

Chief Inspector Matt Oxley of GMP’s Bury Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Thankfully no one was injured during these incidents. It is understandable these events will cause worry locally. We’re doing all we can to find the offenders and are following multiple leads.”

“We’ll have a much increased police presence in Bury town centre this week. Anyone with concerns should speak to officers. We’re especially keen to hear from the passerby who stepped in to help one of the victims.”

“If you have CCTV or dash cam footage, please get in touch.”
