Man Shot Dead in Chilling Newry Ambush
Detectives from Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team have opened a murder probe after a man was gunned down outside his home in Newry.
Brutal Attack Shakes Quiet Residential Area
The 58-year-old victim was shot multiple times at close range at his Ardcarn Park house just after 6pm on 1 December.
Superintendent Norman Haslett described the attack as “beyond reckless,” saying, “Those responsible planned and ambushed the victim in cold blood.”
“The victim was a husband, father and son. He was shot multiple times at close range in a residential area at teatime, when families and children were about. This was reprehensible violence,” he said.
“After the shooting, the victim’s car crashed into a neighbouring property. The killers showed no regard for the victim, his family or the local community.”
Police Urge Witnesses to Step Forward
Superintendent Haslett has appealed for anyone who saw the shooting or captured dash cam footage to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1600 of 01/12/22.

Warning Against Retaliation
The local commander warned residents of increased police presence in the area and urged calm.
“The last thing anyone wants is any form of retribution. We are working to keep the community safe,” Superintendent Haslett added.
