Firefighters Battle Huge Blaze at Biffa Recycling Centre

Firefighters are still battling a fierce fire at the Biffa recycling centre in Marchwood, 24 hours after it first broke out. Dressed in breathing apparatus, crews are using diggers with giant buckets to rip through the smouldering building and remove piles of recycled commercial waste.

Thick Smoke Clouds the Sky

Massive plumes of smoke continue to pour from windows and newly made openings as the operation rages on. Over 100 emergency personnel, supported by 10 pumping appliances, two aerial ladder platforms, and several water carriers, were dispatched after 140 tonnes of household waste caught fire shortly after noon on Monday.

Overnight Efforts Remove 100 Tonnes of Burning Waste

Crews worked through the night, clearing around 100 tonnes of burning debris. Despite their efforts, the fire still burns and firefighters remain on-site, determined to bring the blaze under control.
