Can You Outswim an Otter? Find Out at Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium!
To celebrate National Science Week, Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium is throwing down the gauntlet to young visitors. From March 11 to 20, kids can pit their skills against some of the animal kingdom’s finest in a series of free, science-packed activities, trails, and talks.
Test Your Skills Against Animal Superstars
Take on the aquarium’s trail and see how you measure up against creatures like otters, sharks, and seahorses. Jenna MacFarlane, event organiser, said: “National Science Week is all about celebrating science and showing how it shapes our daily lives. We want to get more people excited about science with fun and educational events.”
Participants can try to match an otter’s breath-holding skills – otters can stay underwater for up to five minutes! Or learn about sharks, whose flexible skeletons are made of cartilage, not bone. There’s even a chance to pick your favourite animal from the aquarium and get creative by drawing or writing about it on special sheets.
Arts and Crafts to Spark Creativity
But that’s not all. The week-long event also features arts and crafts workshops where visitors can make unique artworks inspired by the sea. Best of all? Every activity is included free with your aquarium ticket.
So, if you fancy a day out packed with fun, learning, and a splash of friendly competition, head to Blue Reef Aquarium this National Science Week!
