Hundreds of protesters took to the streets last night in a fiery backlash against Israel’s crackdown on the Global Sumud Flotilla activists. The action sparked chaos at Brighton station and rippled across train hubs nationwide.
Brighton Station Taken Over Amid Traffic Mayhem
More than 200 demonstrators stormed Brighton station on Thursday evening, seizing the concourse before marching into the city centre. They then ground traffic to a halt at one of Brighton’s busiest junctions, causing massive disruption.
Similar scenes played out at train stations all over the UK as protest fury spread.
The protests ignited after Israeli forces detained members of the Global Sumud Flotilla in the early hours of Thursday. The flotilla aimed to break the Gaza blockade and has sparked outrage among solidarity groups across Britain.
The Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign tweeted: “Hundreds now blocking the busiest junction in Brighton city centre. We are with you!”
Police Crack Down With Serious Warning
The British Transport Police (BTP) fired back with a stark warning to rail protesters nationwide. Assistant Chief Constable Sean O’Callaghan urged:
“This is a direct appeal to anyone considering protesting on the railway network this evening – I urge you to think again. The railway is an incredibly dangerous environment and stepping onto tracks could very easily result in serious injury or death. Everyone has the right to protest, but trespassing on the railway is a criminal offence, and those responsible can expect to be arrested.”
BTP confirmed extra patrols at major stations and coordinated efforts with Network Rail to keep trains running and passengers safe.
Flotilla Detention Sparks Nationwide Solidarity Wave
The Global Sumud Flotilla’s bold attempt to break Gaza’s blockade has grabbed headlines worldwide. The detention of its activists has ignited fiery protests from solidarity groups across the UK — and there’s no sign of them slowing down anytime soon.
