Free Dog Microchipping Service Launched Ahead of New Law
Test Valley Borough Council is rolling out a free microchipping service for dog owners before a new law kicks in on 6 April 2016. The move aims to help reunite lost or stolen dogs with their owners faster and more easily.
New Law Means Microchipping is a Must
The Council’s Animal Welfare Officer will microchip dogs either at home or another convenient spot. Councillor Sandra Hawke, Housing and Environmental Health Portfolio Holder, said:
“I urge dog owners to contact the Council and make use of this free service if their pet hasn’t already been microchipped.”
“We see far too many lost dogs without microchips, making it almost impossible to find their owners.”
Quick, Safe and Essential for All Dogs
Microchipping is a quick, painless procedure. The tiny chip — about the size of a grain of rice — is implanted under the dog’s skin between the shoulder blades. The chip stores a unique 15-digit code linked to the owner’s contact details on a secure database.
Vets and animal professionals can scan the chip to contact the owner immediately if a dog goes missing or gets stolen.
