The youngster was making their way across the railway where two residential areas meet when a train hurtling at 50 mph (80 km/h) smashed into them. Despite safety gates and clear warning signs, the child suffered fatal injuries.

  • Any deeper safety concerns linked to the tragedy.

Separate Probes Running

This inquiry runs separately from investigations by the railway industry and the Office of Rail and Road (ORR). RAIB will publish its full findings and safety recommendations when the investigation concludes. The report will be available on the RAIB’s official website.
