Substation Blaze Sparks Major Power Cut

A huge fire and explosion at an electricity substation on Harland Road, Fareham, has plunged up to 10,000 homes and businesses into darkness. The blackout hit Fareham and nearby Portchester, causing chaos for residents and local firms.

Fire Crews Race to Tackle Blaze

The fire broke out just before midday on Thursday, June 1. Three fire crews from Fareham, Southsea, and nearby stations rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames and secure the area. A Hampshire Fire service spokesperson confirmed the substation was severely damaged.

Explosion Damages Cars, Delays Power Restoration

The blast also smashed three cars parked near the substation. Firefighters had to make the site safe before SSE engineers could begin repairs. Power is expected to return by 2pm this afternoon, but businesses and car parks in the area remain affected for now.
