Bin Lorry Blaze Dumps Five Tonnes of Rubbish on Brighton Road

Chaos hit Natal Road, Brighton, when a bin lorry went up in flames, forcing the crew to dump five tonnes of waste on the street. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) rushed to the scene to tackle the fierce fire that erupted just off Lewes Road.

Two Fire Engines Battle the Blaze

An ESFRS spokesperson revealed, “We were called at 11.27am on 17 June 2024 to reports of a bin lorry alight on Natal Road, Brighton. Two fire engines attended, using two hose reels to tackle the fire affecting around five tonnes of waste.”

The lorry had to unload its entire load in a bid to smother the fire, leaving the road blanketed in rubbish.

Road Closures and Clean-Up Operation Underway

Once the fire is fully extinguished, Brighton and Hove Council will launch a major clean-up, which is expected to cause road closures for several hours.

The public is urged to avoid the area to help emergency services and cleanup crews work safely and efficiently.
