Blackwall Tunnel crash sparks chaos across east London! A lorry smashed into the southbound Blackwall Tunnel this morning, triggering a lengthy closure and snarling traffic for miles.

Lorry Collision Closes Southbound Tunnel

The crash happened at 8.50am when a lorry collided with tunnel infrastructure between the A12/A13 and Greenwich. The Metropolitan Police rushed to the scene. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

However, the southbound tunnel has been shut for over two hours as recovery teams and engineers work to clear the wreckage and inspect for damage.

“Police were called at around 08:50hrs on Monday, 10 March to reports of a collision in the southbound Blackwall Tunnel. A lorry collided with part of the tunnel. No reports of any injuries. The southbound tunnel remains closed while the incident is dealt with. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.” – Metropolitan Police spokesperson

Gridlock Spreads Through East London

The closure has caused heavy tailbacks. Traffic on the A12 is backed up to Bromley-by-Bow. On the A13, queues stretch all the way to Beckton. Early morning delays even hit as far north as Hackney Wick.

Drivers are reporting jams on alternative routes too, including the Rotherhithe Tunnel and Tower Bridge as they divert away from Blackwall.

Buses Hit and TfL Issues Warning

Public transport isn’t spared either. Bus routes 108 and 115 have been rerouted, adding to delays across the capital.

Transport for London (TfL) urges motorists to find alternative routes and brace for delays that could last into the afternoon.

East London drivers: expect snarls and heavy delays. Avoid the Blackwall Tunnel if you can!
