M25 Slammed Shut in Both Directions Over Security Alert
The M25 motorway has been shut down between Junction 27 and Junction 29 amid a security scare, causing chaos for drivers. Police from the Met and Essex forces are scouring the area near the A12 in Brentford, with local routes now carrying diverted traffic.
Suspicious Vehicle Sparks Motorway Lockdown
The closure followed reports of a car pulled over on the hard shoulder acting suspiciously. The driver was spotted searching the motorway verge, sparking fears and an immediate police response. The lockdown also snarled traffic on the M11, A12, and A127 as the search expanded.
Massive Police Search Yields Nothing So Far
The lockdown started just before 11pm on Monday with Highways England traffic officers helping to manage the closure. Police have combed a large stretch of the carriageway on both sides but, so far, found no threats or suspicious items.
Clearance Imminent, Says Highways England
A Highways England spokesman confirmed: “The closures are about to be removed shortly.” Motorists are urged to stay tuned for updates as normal traffic flow resumes.
