M25 Chaos: Major Crash Closes Dartford Crossing Both Ways
Emergency crews have slammed the brakes on the M25 at Junction 2 (Darenth Interchange) after a nasty crash involving a car and two vans. The smash has shut the motorway in both directions, sparking huge delays and gridlock heading into Essex.

All traffic was immediately stopped as responders tackled the incident. But trouble spread — debris scattered across the clockwise side forced a full closure there too.
Adding to the chaos, a bridge involved in the collision is now under urgent inspection for damage, delaying any reopening plans. The road remains blocked until safety checks are complete.
Hollow Triangle Diversion in Effect
Highways England has warned drivers to buckle up for long waits. Delays are already 75 minutes above normal levels. Their spokesman said:
“The M25 is closed both ways between J1A and J2 for bridge assessments after a collision. A bridge inspector is on the way.”
For those travelling clockwise, follow the ‘hollow triangle’ diversion:
- Exit M25 at Junction 1A towards Littlebrook Interchange
- Take 2nd exit onto A206 towards Greenhithe
- At A206/A226 roundabout, 2nd exit onto B255 towards Bean
- Continue past Bluewater to A2 North Junction roundabout, then cross to South Junction roundabout
- Take 1st exit onto A2 towards London
- Follow A2 to M25 Junction 2 and rejoin M25 towards Gatwick
Due to the bridge damage affecting the anticlockwise route, drivers should reverse this diversion when heading the other way.
