Massive Warehouse Blaze in Epping Sends Smoke Billowing Over M11
Fire crews are locked in a fierce battle against a huge warehouse fire on High Road in Epping. Thick smoke from the inferno is clouding the skies and can be seen from the busy M11 motorway, sparking safety warnings for nearby residents and drivers.
Warehouse Devoured by Flames
Essex County Fire and Rescue confirmed the blaze erupted in a massive warehouse measuring 100 metres by 30 metres. The building houses four industrial units, with two now fully engulfed in flames. Emergency services rushed to the scene this afternoon, where multiple fire engines remain tackling the ongoing blaze.
Firefighters Rally with Heavy Firepower
Crews from six stations have been deployed to the fire, including:
- Harlow (2 units)
- Waltham Abbey
- Loughton

- Leaden Roding
- Brentwood
Specialist resources supporting the operation include an aerial ladder platform, a water bowser, and a drone unit to get a bird’s-eye view of the flames and damage.
Incident Commander Praises Efforts, Urges Caution
“Firefighters are expected to be on scene for at least another 15 hours to make sure the site is safe and completely cooled before handing it back to the owners,” said Incident Commander Howard Midwood. “I want to thank local residents for their patience, along with our partners from Police, Ambulance Service, and 1 Network.”
A full fire investigation will begin once the building is safe to enter, to determine the cause of the blaze.
Health and Safety Warnings Issued
- Residents: Keep windows and doors shut to avoid heavy smoke inhalation.
- Motorists on the M11: Drive with extreme caution and reduce speed as smoke obscures visibility.
Essex Police and paramedics are also on site managing traffic and ensuring public safety as the dramatic fire continues to rage.
