A lorry packed with suspected stolen sofas was stopped and seized by Nottinghamshire Police after it was spotted driving on false plates in the early hours.
Early Morning Police Chase Ends Near Doncaster
Officers on a routine patrol spotted the HGV on the A614 heading towards Bawtry shortly after 4am on Thursday. Suspecting foul play, roads policing and the Road Crime Team tailed the vehicle towards Doncaster. Using a tyre-deflating stinger device, police safely brought the lorry to a halt near Rossington after boxing it in as it slowed down.
Massive Haul of Boxed Sofas Found
A search of the trailer uncovered numerous boxed sofas believed to be stolen. Three men aged 44, 34, and 25 were arrested on suspicion of theft and driving offences.
“This vehicle was clearly being used in a suspicious manner which is why we decided to pull it over,” said Detective Inspector Jamie Moore, head of roads policing. “Thanks to excellent coordination by officers on the ground and colleagues in the control room, it was brought to a safe stop before any dangerous pursuit could develop.”
The operation highlights ongoing efforts to crack down on vehicle-enabled crime in the region.
