Tragic Crash Claims Life of Beloved Teacher After BMW and Honda Collision
Fatal Smash on Bay Gate Way
Police raced to Bay Gate Way at 1pm on Wednesday, August 4, following a two-car crash. A Honda Jazz and a BMW M5 collided, causing the Honda to flip over.
Tragically, passenger Pauline Edwards, 74, from Heysham, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital. She later died from her wounds.
Heartbreaking Tribute to Beloved Educator
Pauline’s family paid a moving tribute: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pauline Edwards in a road traffic collision on August 4.
“Pauline dedicated 40 years teaching at Lancaster Road Primary School. Her warm smile and generous spirit touched the lives of many.
“As the loving widow of James Edwards, she leaves behind two sons and countless friends. Pauline will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
“We appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or was on Bay Gate Way around that time to come forward.”
Multiple Injuries and Police Investigation
- The Honda driver, an 82-year-old woman from Morecambe, suffered hip and facial injuries and was hospitalized.
- Another passenger, an 80-year-old Morecambe woman, sustained minor injuries.
- The BMW driver, a man in his 50s from Heysham, had minor injuries.
- A passenger in the BMW, a woman in her 30s from Heysham, was treated for whiplash.
Third Car Mystery and Arrest
Police believe a third BMW was involved but the driver fled the scene. Officers later recovered the vehicle in Nottinghamshire and arrested a 31-year-old man from the Isle of Man.
He faces charges of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving but has been released under investigation.
