Brighton Station Renamed ‘Blyton’ to Honour Teen Paralympic Sensation

Brighton station has a fresh new look – temporarily renamed ‘Blyton’ to celebrate 14-year-old Paralympic star Bly Twomey’s smashing success at the 2024 Paralympic Games. The teenage table tennis prodigy bagged two bronze medals alongside teammate Fliss Pickard, putting Brighton in the sporting spotlight.

Welcome to Blyton: A Bold Local Salute

From now until October 7th, just after World Cerebral Palsy Day, travellers arriving in Brighton’s iconic station will be greeted by signs reading, “Welcome to Blyton.” The name change, organised by Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and Southern, is a shout-out to the pride and admiration felt by locals for Bly’s international achievements.

Local Boss Hails Sporting Spirit

Jenny Saunders, Customer Services Director at Govia Thameslink Railway said:

“At Southern, we understand the power of sport to unite local communities. That’s why we wanted to mark Bly’s incredible achievements by renaming Brighton station to Blyton, honouring a local hero who has inspired so many in the city. Congratulations to Bly on her medals, and here’s to the continued sporting success of Brighton!”

The youngest British Paralympian fast becoming a household name was thrilled by the gesture:

“It is a privilege to see my name at my hometown station! I hope it inspires others to believe that anything is possible, no matter who you are.
