South West London Kids Set for Action-Packed Summer Camp Run by Met Police
Youngsters in south west London are gearing up for a summer full of fun, thanks to a popular camp staffed by Met Police officers.
Exclusive Four-Week Camp in Action
The Summer Camp offers a jam-packed four-week programme for children aged 9 to 16 living or studying in Wandsworth, Merton, Kingston, Richmond, or Twickenham.
Run by Parallel Youth Enterprise (PYE), a charity that funds and organises the camp year-round, the event is managed by youth engagement and schools officers from the South West Command Unit.
New Covid-Safe Set-Up
This year’s camp looks a little different due to pandemic restrictions. Places are capped at just 70 kids, split into seven bubbles of ten, each with its own dedicated staff team.
Strict safety measures include temperature checks, PPE for staff, and regular hand sanitising to keep everyone safe.
Activities Galore
The fun takes place at St Cecilia’s School base, where kids can dive into music, dance, arts and crafts, and even circus skills. Off-site trips will include adventure centres and Aqua Sports, plus thrilling activities such as rock climbing, sailing, canoeing, and mini golf.
Police Building Bridges with Youth
PC Louise Dann, camp manager, said: “The last few months have been tough for everyone. We weren’t sure if we could run the Wandsworth Summer Camp this year.”
“But we were determined to make it happen safely, and with the measures in place, we’re confident we can.”
“Our young people need a safe space to get active and meet new friends. The huge number of applications showed just how vital this camp is. We wish we could welcome everyone, but hope those who missed out get another chance soon.”
The camp aims to offer children who might not usually access these activities the chance to stay fit, active, and supported over summer. It also helps build positive relationships between youngsters and police officers that last beyond the camp.
Rachel Bright, trustee at Parallel Youth Enterprise, added: “These camps are a lifeline for many parents and children. We’re thrilled to run another fantastic programme with all necessary precautions.”
“The Wandsworth camp is only in its third year but already growing strong. There’s still a way to go before it catches up with the Lambeth camps, which have been running for over 30 years!”
“These camps highlight the power of community partnerships and make a real difference in young lives.”
Note: Applications for both Wandsworth and Lambeth Summer Camps are now closed for 2021.
