The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the tragic death of Lance Corporal George Hooley, who died in Ukraine on 9 December 2025.

Lance Corporal George Hooley, just 28, died following an accident while observing Ukrainian forces testing a new defensive capability away from the front lines. His loss has shocked his comrades and the military community.
Parachute Regiment’s Rising Star
- Born 12 February 1997, Hooley joined the British Army in November 2015.
- He trained at the Infantry Training Centre, Catterick, and topped his Pre-Parachute Selection Course as ‘P Company Champion’.
- Hooley saw active service in Afghanistan, Africa, and Eastern Europe.
- He earned distinctions on key promotion courses and was set for promotion to Corporal in January 2026.
- Trusted with Corporal-level duties on his latest deployment, he was an exceptional junior leader.
