Beware! TV Licence Refund Scam Hits Inbox
Thinking you’re due a TV licence refund? Think again. Scammers are sending fake emails promising cashback to trick you into handing over personal info.
Complaints about TV licences are common, especially in the age of streaming and binge-watching. So, an email claiming you’re owed £74.50 sounds tempting – but it’s a trap.
The Scam Email: What It Says
The dodgy message, spotted by a Somerset reader, tells you a refund is “still pending” because of “invalid account details.” It urges you to fill out a “TV Licensing refund request” and warns:
“Click ‘Refund Me Now’ and follow the steps to claim your refund. For security reasons, we will record your IP address, date, and time. Deliberate wrong inputs are criminally pursued.”
Don’t Take the Bait
- This email is designed to steal your personal data.
- TV Licensing does NOT send refund emails like this.
- Ignore the link and delete the message immediately.
Remember, real TV licence refunds – should they ever be due – won’t come with scary threats or demands for your details online. Stay alert and protect yourself from scams!
