Murder probe launched after Isle of Dogs assault victim dies months later

Detectives have opened a murder investigation following the death of Terrence Baker, 29, who was attacked in Limehouse back in June. The assault happened just after midnight on 18 June 2017 on Plevna Street, E14.

From assault to fatal injury

Mr Baker was rushed to hospital in critical condition and battled for his life for five months. Tragically, he passed away on Sunday, 19 November. His family have been informed of his death.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command are now leading the investigation. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to reveal the exact cause of death.

Suspect already charged

Detective Inspector Robert Pack heads the inquiry. A 32-year-old man arrested on the night of the attack was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. He was set to face trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 27 November.

With Mr Baker’s death, prosecutors are reviewing the case and considering upgrading charges to murder.

Other arrests linked to same incident

Two more men, aged 30 and 31, were arrested at the scene in connection with a separate assault during the same incident. Both have been charged with common assault on a 27-year-old woman and are bailed to appear at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on 9 February.
