CCTV Snaps Burglar Who Targeted Elderly Man’s Home in West Wickham
Detectives have released CCTV images of a suspect caught on camera burgling a home in West Wickham. The break-in happened on Oaklands Avenue at around 8:30pm on Tuesday, 27 March while the 71-year-old homeowner was out.
Thief Cuts Off Security Camera Mid-Robbery
The man slipped in through the back door between 8:30pm and 8:40pm. He headed straight for the kitchen but spotted an internal security camera, which he promptly switched off to avoid being caught on tape.
Stole Precious Family Heirlooms
The culprit made off with jewellery and perfume that belonged to the victim’s late parents, adding insult to injury. The victim is now left feeling unsafe in his own home.
Police Plea to Public
DC Chris Taylor, leading the investigation, slammed the “brazen burglary” and called for witnesses to come forward. “Did you see the man pictured in this CCTV in the area on Tuesday, 27 March, or know where he is now?” he said.
