Get Ready for Automatic Payback on Slow Broadband and Missed Engineer Visits!

Starting Monday, millions of broadband and home phone users across the UK will benefit from automatic compensation if their service stinks or engineers stand them up. This new deal between telecom giants and watchdog Ofcom promises quick cash refunds for delays and missed appointments.

Who’s Getting Paid? Almost Everyone!

Over 90% of customers using big names like BT, Virgin Media, Sky Talk, and Zen Internet are in line for automatic knockdowns on their bills when things go wrong. That includes delays fixing your broadband or landline, missed engineer slots, and slow service activations.

When Do You Get Compensation?

  • If your broadband or landline isn’t fixed fast enough after breaking down
  • If your new service isn’t up and running on the day promised
  • If an engineer fails to show up for their appointment

And no, you don’t need to chase them for your cash – payouts come automatically.

Which Firms Are On Board?

This voluntary scheme already has five major providers signed up, covering around 90% of the market:

  • BT
  • Sky Talk
  • Virgin Media
  • Zen Internet
  • EE (joining early next year)

Plusnet has said it’s “committed” but hasn’t set a date yet. We’ve also asked if Wightfibre is joining but are waiting on their reply.

Ofcom expects providers to dish out a whopping £142 million a year in compensation under the scheme. So keep an eye on your bills – it could soon pay to be patient!
