Hampshire Hit by Bank Card Scam Targeting the Elderly

Police in Hampshire are warning locals after four recent reports of a cunning bank card scam in Romsey. In one shocking case, a 76-year-old woman was duped by a caller pretending to be her bank manager.

Fake Bank Manager Tricks Victim Into Handing Over PIN

The caller told the pensioner she was about to receive new bank cards. He claimed someone would visit her home to collect her old cards. During the chat, he slyly coaxed her into revealing her PIN numbers.

Cards Stolen and £1,000+ Withdrawn in Scam

Another man then turned up to grab the old cards, which were quickly used to rake in over £1,000 in cash withdrawals. Police remind everyone firmly: banks NEVER call customers to ask for PINs or to collect cards.

Protect Yourself from Scams

  • Never disclose your PIN to anyone, no matter who they claim to be.
  • If you get a suspicious call, hang up immediately.
  • Use a different phone to report the incident to your bank and police.

Stay alert and stay safe. Don’t let scammers cash in on your trust.
