Man Dies After Attack Outside St Leonards Sainsbury’s

A 40-year-old man has tragically died following an attack outside the Sainsbury’s supermarket on John McAdam Way, St Leonards. Police were called to the scene at 9.45pm on Tuesday, 2 July.

Despite desperate attempts by police and paramedics to save him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three Men Arrested and Released Under Investigation

Three men aged 28, 24, and 53 were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. They have since been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Urgent Call for Witnesses and Footage

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Geldart of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said:

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time. We would like to hear from anyone who was in the store or just outside the entrance on Tuesday evening at about 9.30pm who may have witnessed something which could help with our investigation.”

Independent Investigation Underway

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is probing the circumstances surrounding the death. This follows a mandatory referral by Sussex Police’s Professional Standards Department due to police attendance at the scene.
